In the sixties, seventies, and eighties, any and every publisher who brought out a Jimmy Breslin book threw a publication party. Sometimes there was more than one. In 1986, when Ticknor and Fields published Table Money, a moving novel about Owney Morrison, a Vietnam veteran living in Queens, an aggressive freelance publicist selected a half-completed apartment building on Park Avenue for the publication party. I always thought the site revealed the Manhattan publicist’s conception of what she thought Queens looked like. I’m at left, with Breslin, right, at the party.
